Protecting your child from serious illness
Kinsealy Medical Centre delivers the full HSE Primary Childhood Immunisation Programme free of charge to all children registered with the practice. Vaccines are given by our nursing team at five visits — 2, 4, 6, 12 and 13 months — and protect against diseases including whooping cough, meningitis, pneumococcal disease, measles, mumps, rubella and rotavirus.
We recommend booking each visit as soon as your child reaches the eligible age, and bringing your child's immunisation record (the small yellow booklet given to you in the maternity hospital or by your Public Health Nurse) to every appointment.
Nurse-led clinics with Laura McGrath
Our childhood immunisation clinics are led by Laura McGrath, our Practice Nurse, who administers vaccines according to the HSE schedule and is happy to talk through what to expect, answer questions about side effects, and help with catch-up doses if a visit has been missed or delayed. The immunisation schedule
The table below is a summary of the current HSE schedule. Since 1 October 2024, babies also receive an additional dose of 6-in-1 at 13 months and a chickenpox (varicella) vaccine at 12 months; the exact combination given depends on your child's date of birth. Your nurse will confirm exactly which vaccines apply to your child at each visit.

What to expect at the appointment
- Your nurse will check your child is well on the day and ask about any previous reactions
- Most visits involve one or more injections and, at 2 and 4 months, an oral rotavirus drop
- You can give paracetamol (age-appropriate dose) afterwards if your baby is unsettled or feverish
- Mild side effects such as redness, swelling at the injection site, or a low-grade fever for a day or two are common and expected
- Your child's yellow immunisation record book will be updated at each visit
Missed or delayed a vaccine?
If your child has missed a scheduled visit, please contact us as soon as possible — catch-up vaccination is available and it is rarely too late to complete the schedule. Call the practice on (01) 840 5940 and we'll arrange the next available appointment.
